Prior to pursuing my painting career, I worked as an architectural designer in various firms in New York and New Jersey. It was my background in architecture which sparked my fascination with form, light and space that I now use to bring life and spirit to the two- dimensional art form.
I studied life drawing and painting at The Arts Students League of New York, The Cooper Union and Rutgers University followed by a five year apprenticeship with Cuban artist, Dalia Condis. Her teaching method incorporated the classical training at San Alejandro Escuela de Bellas Artes in Havana, Cuba, an emphasis on a solid foundation in anatomy and a concentration of charcoal studies as well the use of oils, watercolor and pastels.
Currently, I live and work in New York City. In addition to working as a commissioned-based portrait artist, I have been teaching art and architecture at the High School for Math, Science and Engineering at the City College of New York since 2002.
